 Margaret Bryant was the daughter of Jesse Bryant Sr. and Margaret (?).1 
Birth1816 She was born in 1816 at NC.2 
MARRIAGE*12 September 1837 She married Elisha Holland, son of James Holland Sr., on 12 September 1837 at Pulaski County, Ga, She is called Mary in the Pulaski County History. Perhaps her name was Mary Margaret.

This note is from Cara Murray who has done a great deal of Bryant research. She thinks that Elisha's wife might be named Margaret...(12-2005 I agree with her)
"I think the parents of Margaret Bryant who married Elisha Holland are Jesse and Margaret Bryant. Although, I haven't been able to document it. But, she seems to fit in with the family. She had a daughter named Charity; Jesse's mother's name was Charity. I believe Margaret Bryant was named for her mother, Margaret. Also, Margaret and Elisha had a son named Jesse and another named Absalom;which is also a Bryant name. All circumstantial of course."3 
Death*before 1870 She died before 1870 I could not find her on the 1870 census. Also, couldn't find a burial place although one would expect she might be in either the Bryant or Holland cemeterys. However, there is a Polly Dykes living with a woman who calls herself Elizabeth Dykes who is clearling Elizabeth Holland Bryant. I am told that Elizabeth never married a person named Dykes yet Elizabeth had a child living with her whose father was Daniel Dykes. In 1870 Daniel was a widower with a son named Moses. Possibly Daniel entrusted the child to the care of Elizabeth and Polly and they simply adopted the name Dykes or possibly when the census taker came whoever gave the information assumed that Elizabeth and Polly were named Dykes. The Polly shown on the 1880 is clearly indicated as sister to the head of hourhold, Elizabeth Bryant Holland aka Dykes. 
Name Variation  Cara Murray thinks this is her name. See note. 
Name Variation  Margaret Bryant was also known as Polly Bryant Her name is given as Margaret in the marriage records, but 1850 census calls her Polly and 1860 called her Mary.

CENSUS1860*1860 She appeared on the census in 1860 at Pulaski County, GA; She is shown as head of household in 1860 and her name is Mary. She lives next door to her brother Joel and his wife Amanda.4

She was living with her brother, Tommy, when she died. Erliffa is buried at Trail Branch Church Cemetery, Bleckley County, GA, in an unmarked grave next to her brother, Joel. (Saralyn interviewed Mary Lou Bryant who said she attended Orliffy's funeral and that Orliffy was buried right next to her brother)

Death*after 1925 She died after 1925 at Bleckely County, GA, In 2004 Annette Floyd who was age 7 in 1925 said that she remembers her. In fact she remembers that "Granny" died at her daughter's home. Annette says that Orliffie was found unconscious on the floor of her home with the water bucket dripping on her. She was brought to her daughter Annie's home and that is where she died.6

CENSUS1900*1900 She appeared on the census in 1900 at GA; She is now divorced and living with her unmarried sister. They live right next door to the William Holland family and possibly worked for them. Their other neighbor was George Heath who apparently lived on the east side of the highway according to the 1909 map.8
Jane and Orliffy Bryant were living across the road from G.M. Heath at the time of the 1900 census. I do not know who the Betty Bryant shown on the map could be.
Married Name20 June 1901  As of 20 June 1901,her married name was Herndon. 
CENSUS1910*1910 She was living with her new husband Charles L. Herndon in the town of Frazier. However, they were listed in the census as Love Hunton. I would never have found them except that Annette Kaplan mentioned June 2, 2005 that "Granny's husband's name was Love".9
I would never have found this as they are listed as Love Hunton (His name was actually Charles L. Herndon) If you think about it Hunton and Herndon could sound alike if spoken with a southern accent.
Biography*1999  When her two daughters, Margaret Juliette and Annie Jane married within six months of each other, it must have been an occasion of mixed emotions for their mother Orliffie. It meant that she and her sister, Jane Bryant were freed from the years of parental responsibility for raising the family alone, but at the same time it must have left an unexpected emptiness in the house. For over ten years, since being deserted by her husband, Jesse Jasper Holland, Jane had lived with her sister, Orliffy, and found fulfillment in raising the girls. Participation in her nieces lives had compensated for an earlier sadness Jane did not often discuss. It seems certain that her life of solitude as an unmarried aunt was a direct result of that huge and changing force, the Civil War of twenty five years previous.

Did she have a lover who, like so many others, went off to war never to return, or was her spinsterhood a result of the short supply of eligible males resulting from war deaths and maimings? Family stories indicate that she was the oldest of ten children, that her father died before the youngest, Orliffie, was seven years old and that she, the eldest was forced to remain at home to assist her widowed mother. Whatever the reason, providence knew well that her life would be for the service of others. Not only did she help her mother with the children, but later she devoted herself to the aid of her youngest sister who was abandoned by Jesse Holland and left to care for two young daughters.
