| Birth* | circa 1600 | He was born circa 1600 He was probably born in England. |
| Biography* | | Peter Knight appears on land grants in several counties of the early Virginia colony beginning in 1638. He patented 150 acres of land in Basse’s Choice plantation in 1640, and 255 acres in 1643. Peter sold the tract to John Bland, an eminent London Merchant. Peter Knight was a Jamestown merchant and a member of the House of Burgesses in 1657-58, assembled March 13th, representing Northumberland; 1659-60, assembled March 13th, representing Gloucester; and 1684, assembled April 16th, representing Northumberland; and 1685, session begun November 2, 1685, representing Northumberland. In 1619, the House of Burgesses became the first legislature in America. This group and the governor met together to create laws for the colony. Usually, the most prominent people were elected to serve in this office. In 1774, Lord Dunmore dissolved the House of Burgesses, but delegates met together secretly. They established the First Continental Congress. In 1775, the Second Continental Congress met in Richmond. Virginia’s George Washington was chosen as head of the Continental Army. The following year Virginia adopted its first constitution. Peter Knight was also a Captain in the Indian Wars. Matthew Bradford, who immigrated to Virginia in 1652, was listed as a servant to Peter Knight of Gloucester County. http://www.geocities.com/knighthistory/VirginiaKnights.htm. |

| Death* | 21 November 1924 | He died on 21 November 1924 at Georgetown, Washington, D.C., at age 68.4 |
| Biography* | | In 1976 Herman Charles Vollmer wrote the following about his grandfather Charles J. Knopp: Excellent dresser - nothing but the best. Had to have ryebread with the seeds in it. In business for himself as a cigar maker. Maybe he was not too successful (I really don't know) but he spent many years until he died as a Superintendent of Offindinger's Cigar factory aat 9th St. south of F St., N. W. on the west side (in Washington, D.C.) I was there several times when I was about eight years or so old. He had a slight stroke, lived and then maybe another stroke years later that resulted in his death while living at 1604 33rd St., N.W. Georgetown, D.C. He was sixty eight years old. The 1600 block is at this writing (Sept. 1976) the 1500 block. I was old enough to drive when he was living. I remember taking him for rides in 1922 Chevrolet auto touring car. He was not much for hammer and nails as I remember. My father did most of that for him. He liked me and my cousin Everett Littleton who lived in same house above. Took us on trips by train to Chesapeake Beach and hiking out where Georgetown Hospital now is picking blackberies. I gave Betsy his gold watch and fob. People liked to ask him the time and he always reported down to the second. We also went fishing at Benedict and other places in southern Maryland. Stayed overnight. I know he was once bitten by a toad fish and his hand swelled up and must have been very painful. We call him Pop Pop. His wife Mary A. must have been an Ogle. We call her Mom Mom. Hobbies: Baseball, Prize Fighting, Fishing. |
